Grilled Tofu Steaks
When leading a plant-based lifestyle, for me there is nothing more exciting than learning about new and delicious ways to mix up my meals in the kitchen. Grilled Tofu Steaks stumbled into my life just in time for Canadian Thanksgiving this year and I just had to try them out. I loosely followed a recipe, tweaking it to better suit my taste buds. The recipe explained how to marinate tofu, explaining that it absorbs the most flavor if left overnight, so this is what I did. When I tell you my tofu has never been packed with that much flavor before, I am telling you the truth. The recipe is quite simple and straightforward. For the marinade, you will need Olive Oil, Liquid Smoke, Soy Sauce, Smoked Paprika, Salt, Pepper, Onion Powder and Garlic to taste. After cutting your block of tofu into your preferred steak size, you will submerge them into the marinade, making sure every inch of the tofu is covered. So, how long can you marinate tofu? Allow the tofu to marinate as long as possible. I suggest marinating them overnight, but wouldn’t marinate for any longer as the tofu will really absorb all the flavor. When you’re ready for grilling, remove your tofu steaks from the fridge and throw them on the grill. Cook for 5 minutes on each side until charred to perfection.
Baked Tofu Cubes
Baking up a pan of Tofu Cubes is one of my favourite ways to eat this delicious food Baked Tofu Cubes can easily be added to a variety of dishes. They can be added into a fresh salad, mixed into a grain bowl, paired with roasted veggies and rice, or stirred into a rich coconut curry. The key to making these cubes taste amazing and reach their full potential all comes down to how to marinate and cook tofu. This, as we’re quickly learning, is not a difficult skill to adopt. The right seasonings and appropriate amount of time set aside for the marination process is really all you need. So what can I marinate tofu in? And how long can I marinate tofu for? These may be two of the many questions that are coming to mind. For these Baked Tofu Cubes you can essentially marinate them in anything you want, but to maintain versatility here’s what I do. I take my cube of extra firm tofu and press out any of the excess liquids. I then slice my tofu into 1×1 inch cubes, the smaller the better in my opinion. I then place my tofu squares into a medium mixing bowl, preferably one with a lid or the ability to be covered. To the bowl I add Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper and Garlic Powder to taste. I will also sometimes add a splash of soy sauce or tamari. And there you have it, it is as simple as that. Once again, how long should you marinate tofu? Make sure all of the tofu is coated and submerged into the marinade and allow to rest overnight or as long as possible. When they’re ready to bake you will set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake until golden brown. There you have it, the most versatile Baked Tofu Cubes ready to add to any dish or eat on their own.
Fried Maple Garlic Tofu
How do I marinate tofu? The question should really be how do you marinate tofu? Because after today you are going to know everything you need to know about the marination process. The third and final way to feast on marinated tofu that I will be sharing with you today is one of the most delicious. I like to call this dish my Friend Maple Garlic Tofu. This is one of my all-time favourite ways to cook up my tofu so let’s dive right into it, shall we. To make the marinade all you need is Olive Oil, Maple Syrup, freshly Minced Garlic and Salt and Pepper to taste. You will want to cut your tofu brick into thin rectangles. The thinner you slice them, the crispier they will get. My mantra in the kitchen when dealing with fried tofu is going thin or go home! Just kidding, but maybe it should be. After slicing up your tofu you may be wondering one last time, how long should I marinate tofu? My answer is the same as previously stated. If you are able to lay your tofu to rest for the entirety of one night, I highly suggest you do so. This will allow the tofu to soak up all of those delicious flavours you have been dying to try. So how long do I marinate tofu? Always overnight. The pre-preparation will also lighten a load of tasks to complete the next day. It’s a win-win situation. After allowing these tofu strips to marinate, I then add them to a pan with sizzling Olive Oil. Allow these stripes to crisp up on every side. The freshly Minced Garlic may become slightly burnt when on the stove as the Maple Syrup cooks up quickly. This is okay. The chunks of garlic clusters are my personal favourite part of this dish.
