Tahini Sauce Is An Incredibly Popular Food, So Together Let’s Define Tahini

what is Tahini Sauce

Tahini sauce is very popular food that can be and is used in a variety of dishes. But what is tahini sauce beyond its name? Today we have a lot of discussions and learning to do so let’s get started right away.

So where is tahini from? Tahini began its journey in Persia and eventually found its way to Israel. From this point on, it became a widespread food well-known worldwide. The tahini meaning is really quite simple. When you hear the word tahini you should begin to think about a Middle Eastern sauce, paste, or spread that is made from the process of grinding sesame seeds. There’s not much more to it really. Tahini sauce on its own is good, yes, but it’s what you pair it with that makes it amazing. Keep reading to later learn about some amazing ways in which you can eat and enjoy all that tahini has to offer.

So now that we know where tahini originated, let’s talk about the tahini ingredients. So what’s in tahini? As I just stated, it is made from the process of grinding sesame seeds. And believe it or not, that’s absolutely all it is. Similar to how natural peanut butter and almond butter are made, tahini is made the same. So does tahini have dairy in it? Absolutely not! It is 100% vegan and gluten-free which makes it a great option for all to enjoy. Sometimes tahini has oil added to it, but the oil is not necessary. I prefer to keep my tahini solely sesame seeds and nothing more. If a recipe can be simple, I keep it that way. There are many options for which sesame seeds are used for this sauce. Hulled, unhulled, roasted, or raw, no matter which style of seed you choose you will be left with an amazing and creamy result.

Flavour And Appearance

If tahini is solely composed of sesame seeds, then what does tahini taste like and what does it look like? Tahini tastes like exactly what it is, ground sesame seeds. It has an earthy somewhat muted flavor to it. Nothing too powerful but still distinct. It looks like a beige creamy substance, honestly not the most appealing appearance for everyone’s taste buds. However, no matter how it looks, how it tastes will blow your mind. It definitely has more of a savory flavor profile to it, though can be used in both savory and sweet dishes which we will get into soon.

What is tahini good for anyway? Well, this answer is quite simple and straightforward. Everything. Okay, not quite everything, but it can be used in many ways, always tasting amazing. Tahini can be eaten on its own but is also a key ingredient in a variety of recipes. For example, I love dipping my apple slices in tahini or even my veggies. It adds creaminess, healthy fat, and protein to my raw fruits and veggies. It is most commonly used in recipes such as hummus or baba ganoush, adding a thick creaminess that takes both dishes to the next level. An amazing way to make a dessert with tahini is to stuff dates with it and place them in the freezer. Allow them to freeze for at least 3 hours. Once you try this snack you will never stop making this for yourself. Tahini is also a great way to take your salads to the next level. I personally love salads but find myself falling into the same routine of olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. This can get repetitive and boring. Creating salad dressing with tahini brings your salads to the next level. The creamy richness this sauce adds will have you eating a salad for every meal. Finally, a friendly drizzle on top of roasted vegetables is a great way to add extra nutrients to your meal. For example, roasted broccoli with a drizzle of freshly squeezed lemon juice and a thick drizzle of tahini, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. All in all, tahini is truly just a versatile and amazing food.
