You Stumbled Upon The Most Delicious TVP Taco Recipe You Will Ever Try, Enjoy!

Why TVP?

Before diving straight into this TVP taco recipe, I would like to take a moment to talk about why textured vegetable protein is the ideal candidate for filling tacos. TVP is a great meat alternative that has a similar texture to that of ground beef, which can commonly be found in tacos. If seasoned correctly, TVP will have an unreal resemblance to real meat. So if you have recently gone vegan, or are a vegan who is trying to satisfy your non-vegan friends, this recipe is definitely the recipe for you. The more we supplement animal products with vegan alternatives, the more steps we take towards a brighter future. Why harm the animals and the planet if there are so many other options to place on our plates? This recipe is one of the many perfect examples. Okay, let’s get started on the TVP taco meat recipe already.

For The Meat:

  • 2 cups TVP
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 2 tbsp oil of choice
  • 1 pack taco seasoning

For The Tacos:

  • Corn tortillas
  • Salsa of choice
  • Guacamole
  • Red cabbage
  • Lime
  • Cilantro

The first step to creating the best-textured vegetable protein tacos is, to begin with, your TVP ‘meat’. To do this, you will heat your water on the stovetop. Once heated, you will add your dehydrated TVP into the water and allow that to sit for a few minutes. After three to five minutes you will add in your liquid smoke and olive oil, followed by your packet of taco seasoning. If you are trying to make these tacos 100% vegan, I suggest double-checking the ingredients on your taco seasoning before purchasing as some brands sneak in some animal products and/or by-products. Allow your meat to cook until the water and seasonings have all absorbed into the TVP. While your TVP taco filling is cooking you can go ahead and prepare your additional items. Heat your corn tortillas on a pan, prepare your salsa and guacamole, shred your cabbage, slice your lime and roughly chop your cilantro.

Plating Suggestions

Once all of your individual items are prepared, it’s finally time to assemble your taco TVP style. Begin with placing three corn tortillas on a plate. First, place a scoop of your TVP taco meat onto the tortillas. Follow this with your salsa of choice. Sprinkle as much shredded cabbage as you would like into each tortilla for that extra crunch. Top each taco with a dollop of guacamole, a dash of cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime. And there you have it, the most beautiful and delicious TVP tacos you or your friends will ever try. The great thing is that no animals were harmed in the making of this meal. I hope you enjoy it!
